5. Sew the sleeves
a) Stitch gathering stitches on the sleeve cap between the two markings, then along the entire length of the bottom of the sleeve (see page 27).
b) With Right sides together, align sleeve underarm raw edges; stitch the underarm seam, being sure not to catch your gathering threads. Press seam open and finish seams.
c) With Right sides together, insert the sleeve into the armhole, matching sleeve underarm seam with blouse side seam. Pull the bobbin threads from the gathering stitches to gather the excess fullness of the sleeve and match up markings. Align the sleeve and armhole raw edges and pin (see Figure 4).
d) With Wrong side facing, start at the underarm seam and stitch sleeve in place. Press seam allowance toward sleeve and finish seams.
e) With Wrong sides together, fold one cuff piece in half, aligning the long edges, and press to create a crease. Unfold the cuff, then, with Right sides together, align the short ends and stitch to create a tube; press seam open.
f) With Right sides together, slip cuff over lower edge of sleeve, and match cuff and underarm seams. Gently pull bobbin threads and gather the lower edge of the sleeve, so that it is the same circumference as the cuff. Align raw edges and stitch together using a 3/8-in/1-cm seam allowance; press seam allowance toward cuff.
g) Fold over the raw edge of the cuff 3/8 in/1 cm to the Wrong side and press.
h) With Wrong sides together, fold cuff along center crease (from step 5e), encasing all of the seam allowances. Align cuff folded edge along seam and slip stitch in place.
i) Repeat 5a through 5h with second sleeve and cuff.
